Tatu Maluba: The New Voice of Zimbabwean Afro-Fusion

Zimbabwe's vibrant music scene continues to evolve with the emergence of Tatu Maluba and the Rhinos. Fronted by the talented Victor Katsande, this rising Afro-fusion ensemble is capturing the attention of audiences by seamlessly bridging the gap between ancestral heritage and modern musicality.

Born Victor Katsande, Tatu Maluba has dedicated his craft to mastering the mbira, a deeply spiritual and traditional Zimbabwean instrument. However, his artistic vision extends beyond classical boundaries. By integrating contemporary rhythms and modern instrumentation with the resonant, metallic textures of the mbira, he creates a unique sonic experience that appeals to both purists and the younger generation.

A Captivating Sound

The signature sound of Tatu Maluba and the Rhinos is defined by its dynamic energy and cultural authenticity. Their music is not just entertainment; it is a celebration of Zimbabwean identity, reimagined for a global stage. The band’s arrangements skillfully weave complex polyrhythms with melodic storytelling, ensuring that the traditional roots of Afro-fusion remain at the forefront of their performances.

Recently, the group delivered a standout performance at the prestigious Bira reMbira Festival. This celebrated event is a cornerstone for traditional music lovers, providing a platform for artists who preserve and innovate within the mbira genre.
